This is called "Defining Goals" in Project Management terms. The fact that you want an elephant in your back garden is the means by which you are satisfying your goal, not the goal itself.

We need to find out why you want what you want if you're going to be satisfied at the end of the project. If you're not happy, the project has failed. We don't want that.

So, why do you want an elephant in your back garden?
