Hello again. I hope you enjoy the new look. To business. Not long ago, a situation arose that I thought had left the Reiki community - such as it is. It made me wonder, yet again, why it is that we do Reiki. Reiki, as I was taught it, is a method of spiritual growth, a healing modality, a meditation and a loving touch. In many ways it is about being still and listening - listening to one's own inner silence; listening to one's hands as they rest gently on another; listening to the flow of Reiki as it gives messages and hints as to where and how we or the one we gently touch is or are progressing. It is not about ego. When we place our Reiki hands on ourselves or another, we are letting go of ourselves, not making ourselves important. The healing is not about me, it is about who or what we are healing. It is about making space for miracles, without the necessity to point to them. It is not about drawing attention to ourselves and how clever we are. Reiki gives us the strength to recognise our own need for boundaries, the courage to set and hold healthy ones and the compassion to recognise and respect other people's boundaries even when we don't like them. Reiki is a loving touch. Love does not force itself on another, even when they need it; love recognises that others have a right to make their own decisions, even when they're wrong. Love is never selfish - but when it is, it recognises it, apologises and makes the effort to change. Love understands that not everyone wants the whole world to know their business; love keeps appropriate secrets and shines a light on inappropriate ones. Why do we do Reiki? We do Reiki in order to learn to be loving beings. It's a long journey; at times a hard journey; but a journey worth undertaking.
